The Breakfree Foundation was formed in 1998 as a fundraising organisation to provide education and support programs to prevent drug and alcohol abuse among the youth in our community. The ultimate aim of the programs being to decrease the harms associated with drug and alcohol misuse including road fatalities and accidents, violence, theft and vandalism. Breakfree
aims to assist in the development of social responsibility within the
community, by working actively with schools, businesses and community
organisations to increase awareness of drug and alcohol abuse. Over 350 guests joined host Andrew Ettingshausen on Saturday 28 February 2004 for ET's Beach Party at Sails Bistro at Toyota Motor Corporation, Caringbah. The event raised over $38,000 for the Breakfree Foundation, the Sutherland Shire's major fundraising organisation for youth support and drug and alcohol education programs. Party goers dressed in beach gear and enjoyed a variety of games on the night including volleyball, riding the mechanical surfboard, mini golf, horizontal bungee, bocce, quoits and dancing. Fundraising on the night included an auction to dunk ET and Breakfree directors, including Greg Ball (Breakfree Chairman), John Rayner (General Manager, Sutherland Shire Council) and Robert Gooch (General Manager Business Support Services, Toyota). A silent auction offered a variety of quality items donated by the community - the high ticket items included a Jacksons surfboard, a $1000 Select Credit Union bank account, 2003 signed rugby world cup jumper, and a framed 2003 Billabong Pro surf photo from Pure Sea. "The event was such a success due to the support of local business and community members. The Breakfree Foundation would not be able to continue providing our programs to the youth of the Sutherland Shire without such fantastic support," said Greg Ball, Chairman of the Breakfree Foundation. Breakfree Foundation patron Andrew Ettingshausen said the funds raised from the night will make a significant difference to the ability of the Breakfree Foundation to help Shire kids through their Camp Breakfree and education programs to prevent drug and alcohol abuse. "Everyone who supported the event should be proud of their contribution to our local charity, and know that their efforts will be helping real kids in our area, possibly even someone they know," he said.
